The Royal Birkdale

Located in the lovely northwest seaside town of Southport The Royal Birkdale is an iconic Art Deco building with a links course and one of a few golf courses to hold the British Open Golf  Championship and the Ryder Cup. Since obtaining the Royal warrant from George VI the course has been the setting for more Championship and International Tournaments than anywhere else in  the world.

The interior of the Club House was looking tired and dated and was in need of reflecting both the  iconic Art Deco building and the prestigious standing of the Club.

The aim was to enhance the interior by bringing the outside in, by linking the fabulous view from the Clubhouse out across the course and to the sea beyond to the inside. We designed a carpet  based on the course itself for the bar and course side rooms and a more formal logo carpet to reflect the status of the Club throughout the entrance, corridors and changing rooms. The bar was redesigned with a curved front and hand made Art Deco style lights to better reflect the style of the building and the furniture was replaced with quality bespoke items with chairs fully upholstered in leather in colours to reflect the course.

It is a bold interior for a bold Art Deco building, it is different yet distinguished and both Club members and visitors have been delighted with the results. It has combined the best of its history with looking towards the future and will be a wonderful venue for when it holds the next British Open.
