The Golden Lion is a lovely old building building just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with heaps of character but it was just a little bit tired and in need of a little lift, nothing structural. The first phase was to update all the bedrooms with new ensuites and a budget conscious update to the bedrooms which once completed gave an entirely different feel to the rooms and small details such as hand knitted tea cosies and hot water bottles added an individual touch and these combined with warm wools and a countryside look reflect the modern country feel that is very much part of the Thwaites Inns of Character brand.
The restaurant was finished only recently, it is a large space with high ceiling and needed some colour, warmth, character and interest adding. Wanting to follow the theme of the modern countryside look throughout I used a vibrant teal together with a striking warm terracotta pheasant wallpaper, feather patterned fabrics, rural artwork, rustic textures and introduced some lower level lighting to create more ambience and a cosier dining experience.
The introduction of a large feature yet functional coffee station has been a great benefit to busy staff and provided well needed storage and an attractive place to display afternoon tea cakes and daily offers.
