Formerly a 17th century coaching Inn the Millstone at Mellor, Lancashire oozes character from the creaking old floors to the sloping walls and beams. The refurbishment of the ground floor and rooms has been completed in phases over a period of time with the scheme needing to keep in mind both the character of the building and the brand look of Thwaites Inns of Character whilst appealing to both families, tourists, locals and corporate guests alike.
The bar was completely rebuilt in solid oak with a reception at one end for the hotel bedrooms and a new more functional coffee station area and better product display for the bar. Open fireplaces are central features to the bar area and main restaurant and dated looking panelling was painted in muted colours to lift the restaurant and bar areas. The library area and conference rooms were refurbished to create additional covers as the restaurant at the Millstone is always very busy.
Countryside artwork, natural materials such as a stone floor and oak parquet, feature lamps made from old shotguns and a neutral base colour scheme with pops of colour and plenty of different textures compliment the details of the old building to give a lovely warm feel. The rooms have an upmarket, modern country feel with a slightly quirky edge with fun lamps, interesting colours and finishes with grand headboards and custom designed furniture. The details in the tea pots and hand knitted cosies and hand made biscuits in every room reflect the quality and thought behind the Inn brand.
